Program Overview – Better Jobs Ontario, Integrated Employment Services, Community Programs
The BJO Employment Consultant, Integrated Employment Services, is part of a high-performance team that improves communities, families and individual lives through effective access to employment. Working at a local Integrated Employment Services Centre or other sites in the City of Toronto, they rapidly help high-need jobseekers obtain quality, sustainable employment. The employment needs in the City of Toronto are intense, and our Employment Consultants bring caring, energy, focus and skill to address these needs in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. WoodGreen’s Employment Consultants are supported by caring managers, training, tools, procedures, and systems for success. We aim to have the best jobseeker client experience and outcomes available in Canada, and our Employment Consultants are a cornerstone of this success.
The BJO Employment Consultant guides and supports jobseekers to prepare and submit Better Jobs Ontario Applications to apply for funding for education & training in the hopes of finding quality, sustainable employment. They provide a context for jobseekers to believe in themselves and feel empowered to succeed in obtaining employment. Through rapid and intensive engagement with clients in a structured service delivery model, they establish excellent rapport and trust, understand client needs, prepare them for the BJO Application process and work alongside clients throughout the research and application process.
What You Will Do
- Build rapport and an emotionally supportive context for each client to feel trusting, engage readily in the job search process, and believe in their own success to obtain employment. Help clients build their motivation and confidence.
- Ensure clients understand the Better Jobs Ontario and Integrated Employment Services approach and the value of services provided, particularly retention support.
- Create equity in all aspects of service delivery, striving for inclusion and equitable outcomes for all jobseekers who come to WoodGreen.
- Manage a caseload of BJO applicants, in various stages of the application process. Using excellent time management and efficiency, effective appointment planning, client assignments, and activities, move clients toward skill upgrading and employment with pace and urgency.
- Maintain accountability for monthly individual intakes and application targets.
- Readily participate in training and coaching to support achievement of targets. Use supervisor monitors and feedback as a constructive learning experience.
- Compassionately and effectively administer the Province of Ontario’s Common Assessment Tool and intake clients into the Integrated Employment Services program in preparation for their application for Better Jobs Ontario funding.
- Through a series of primarily in-person individualized client appointments and group activities, help move the client to employment by following the Integrated Employment Services Guidelines as prepared by WCG as well as WoodGreen’s standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and skills in the delivery of client activities, particularly: developing an employment action plan, needs assessment and goal setting.
- Help remove temporary barriers to employment by referring to needed services and arranging financial supports.
- Collaborate with social assistance caseworkers to coordinate the appropriate life stabilization services for OW/ODSP clients per WCG guidelines and WoodGreen procedures.
- As needed, sit with and support clients as they use onsite computers for labour market research, resume development, job searching, interview practice, etc. including providing basic digital literacy training, helping to set up email accounts, accessing online training resources, submitting online job applications, accessing life stabilization resources (e.g. banking, Ontario Works, housing help etc.).
- In an efficient and prompt manner, complete all BJO documentation and data entry per WCG requirements and WoodGreen standard operating procedures (e.g. client notes, data entry, referrals, updating forms).
- Work collaboratively as a team to ensure effective case management and achieve positive outcomes for each client.
- Collaborate effectively with the WoodGreen’s appointment booking team, Settlement Counsellors, Financial Empowerment Counsellors, volunteers and students, and other WoodGreen teams and staff for a smooth and positive client journey that best meets the clients’ needs.
- Develop and/or learn to facilitate existing materials and deliver in group activities or workshops, both in person and online, as part of a regular rotation of duties within the team.
- As needed to support site operations, provide customer service support at the front desk, engage in outreach activities and perform other duties.
- Participate in and complete upgrading training and education as required by WoodGreen.
